We've got a flock of mixed chickens and a duck. We have chosen to have a mix of chickens to make the flock colorful and fun. Our chickens could be the friendliest on the planet, you'll find them free ranging and doing what they love to do most, hanging around people. The old chickens have taught the younger ones to be smart and avoid predators so they love hanging out under the tractors, hay wagons, implements, vehicles and bushes. We will not only get eggs in the nesting boxes but under their favorite bush on the southeast side of the house where they're often found frolicking. This bush has earned the comical title of orgy bush as the safe place for chickens to hang out and lay their eggs.
Fresh eggs do not need to be refrigerated until they're washed. They come out of the chicken with a clear coating on them that protects them from the elements. Once you wash the eggs, please put them in the refrigerator. If the eggs are kept in a warm place they will turn into chickens so use your fresh eggs in a timely fashion. We'll find newly born chicks in various places when the chickens lay their eggs outside of the nesting boxes in places we don't know to look to collect them. We've found new chicks in the hay on the ground, in the hay in the loft and of course in orgy bush.
